Welcome to the Volatis Stud website.

We are a small private stud currently located in South Lincolnshire in the charming village of Irnham. This location is conveniently close to the A1 allowing access to major competition venues, but it's rural setting still allows access to the land needed to breed and raise young horses. We also take in a very limited number of horses for backing or schooling. For further information on this service please see the Training page.
The main focus at Volatis is the breeding of top class sporthorses. We aim to cross quality proven mares with the best stallions, to breed exceptional sporthorses with that little bit extra. Our long term goals drive our current breeding decisions, and that is to breed exceptional quality sporthorses, some with colour and some pure bred Trakehners. Temperament and athleticism are the most important considerations, but we pay rigorous attention to finding the right match for each mare, in terms of type, conformation and pedigree.
The Trakehner is bred to be the ideal sporthorse. It is arguably the most beautiful, intelligent and spirited of the warmblood breeds. At Volatis we have a number of exceptional pure bred mares, representing some of the finest bloodlines in the breed. We believe the Trakehner is an excellent foundation for any successful breeding program, and so our mares will be used to not only produce pure bred Trakehners, but also part breds.
Volatis Stud is the fulfilment of a lifetime's ambition and dreams. Owned and managed by Sacha Shaw, Volatis is a place where dreams are born and allowed to soar. The word Volatis is itself derived from the Latin word Volo, which means to fly or soar, which sentiment of which the following quotation from the Shakespeare play Henry V captures perfectly- ' When I bestride him I soar, I am a hawk. He trots the air, the earth sings when he touches it '
I was born and bred into racing, my grandfather being a National Hunt trainer. As a teenager I grew up in Central Africa, and was able to compete a number of home bred and produced horses in a variety of disciplines, including show jumping on the Junior Team and eventing my 14.3hh mare at Intermediate Level with a 4th place in the National Championships at only 14!
My racing blood meant that I was always drawn to Thoroughbreds, and I bought and produced a number of ex-racehorses after returning to England full time. Although breeding and competing on a limited scale, eventually the confines of an office based accountancy career were stifling my equestrian dreams to the extent that I took the plunge and Volatis Stud was born.
I am currently working as stud manager to one of the top breeders and producers of show horses in the country, running the yard and stud, and producing her young horses for the show ring, in addition to taking on the role of committee member and part-bred registrar for the Trakehner Breeders Fraternity. This role still allows me to focus on my own breeding program and we have had great success with our home bred stock in 2007 and 2008 and with showing youngstock for Sacha's employer.
I hope that you return to visit our site regularly and watch the development and progress of our young team.
