Volatis Callista

2006 Bay Tobiano filly by Goshka Festivo x Cover Girl to mature approximately 16.2hh
Callista was born on 7th June shortly after midnight, a striking and elegant filly, who is developing into a modern, refined and very uphill sporthorse prospect. We are thrilled with every aspect of her, validation of our breeding plans, and well worth the 11 months wait. Callista is our second foal by the young Westphalen stallion Festivo, out of the beautifully bred Trakehner mare Cover Girl. Although I was really hoping to retain Callista, she was sold very quickly to a wonderful dressage home in Northumberland. Her dam has been bred back to Festivo so fingers crossed we get a repeat in 2007.
Callista was shown in the BEF Futurity scheme and was awarded a first premium, scoring over 80% in her assessment. She scored particuarly highly for athleticism and type, a fantastic achievement.

Callista's sire is the Westphalen stallion Festivo, Champion of his BSPA grading in 2005 and a son of the legendary Fidermark. Fidermark was the Bundeschampion as a 4 year old, and had just started competing at Grand Prix when he died prematurely at the age of 11, leaving over 30 approved sons. Described by his trainer, the legendary Jo Hinnemann as the perfect horse, Fidermark made a huge impact on the Westphalen stud book. Festivo himself is to be aimed at Young Horse Classes this season and we hope he will make a big impact on the dressage scene.
Her dam is the grey Trakehner mare Cover Girl. This is a mare with exemplary breeding, being a half sister to the top German stallion Connery, from the female line of Cornau. Cornau (Cover Girl's granddam) produced the elite stallion Consul, the Grand Prix mare Corna, who herself produced the stallion Checkpoint. Cover Girl's sire Guter Stern was Champion of his grading and her dam sire Karo As (from where she gets her grey colouring) was the only graded son of the outstanding event horse producer Volkorn. With such a strong female line, Callista is not only destined to be a great sporthorse, but also an outstanding broodmare.
