Cover Girl

1990 grey Trakehner Mare 16.0hh by Guter Stern x Caro-Dame II

Cover Girl, known as Christie at home, is one of the best bred Trakehner mares in the country and has been kindly loaned to us by the Fleetwater Stud and Mrs Louise King.
Christie is a very typey Trakehner, and although purchased in Germany as a foal at the Elite Foal Auction in Neumunster, was presented and graded here in England with excellent scores, including 8s for type and overall impression. Even at 17 years of age, and having produced 10 foals to date, she still carries herself with a regal bearing, and has the most wonderful ground covering paces with great use of her shoulder. Her oldest offspring are competing in both affiliated eventing and dressage with great success, and all of her daughters that are old enough have been fully graded with the TBF. Indeed her daughters themselves are now producing graded mares, showing what a remarkable broodmare Christie is.
Her first foal for Volatis, the bay tobiano filly Callista was sold prior to weaning. This year she has produced a stunning full sister, Cosmopolitan who is for sale.

Cover Girl's breeding is truely breathtaking. She is a direct descedant of the great mare Cornau. Cornau gained Elite status as the excellence of her progency became recognised. These include: Corna, Bundeshampion, Grand Prix performer and dam of Checkpoint; the Elite stallion Consul, a premium stallion of the highest quality who distinguished himself in both Trakehner and Hanoverian breeds. He is for example sire of Elite stallion Rockerfeller, the Premium stallion Interconti and Olympic dressage competitor Crisp as well as damsire of leading Hanoverian stallion Don Frederico, Olympic dressage horse Bon Bonaparte and premium stallions Tambour and Don Vino . Cover Girl's dam Caro-Dame II is a daughter of Cornau and is herself the dam of one of the great young Trakehner stallions to be approved by both the Trakehner and Hanoverian verbands in recent years - Connery. Connery has already approved sons in both the Trakehner and Hanoverian stud books and qualified for the Bundeschampionate in both 2002 and 2003. His son Imperio was Reserve Champion of his licensing in 2005 and was placed at the Bundeschampionate this year. In Neumunster in 2007 his son Ettinger was not only awarded a Premium but was made Reserve Champion on account of his wonderful presence and breath taking movement. Caro-Dame II had another son pre-selected for licensing in 2007 who was sold to a British buyer for 18,000 Euros.
Cover Girl's sire Guter Stern was Champion of his grading and was a magnificent big bay horse that so impressed Mrs King, she decided to try and purchase one of his daughters, and so bought Cover Girl. Sadly Guter Stern died after just a few seasons at stud, but in that short time became a noted producer of broodmares. Guter Stern comes from a very successful mare family, that has produced the Reserve Champion stallion Guter Planet and the Trakehner Riding Horse Champion Mare Gute Sitte. Guter Planet is actually bred on similar lines to Christie being a half brother to Guter Stern, and by Consul.
With such a strong pedigree on both sides of the family tree, Christie is a wonderful asset to both our pure bred Trakehner breeding program and in our coloured sporthorse breeding program.
