Volatis Hurakan

2006 Bay Tobiano colt by Goshka Festivo x Desert Storm III to mature 16.2hh+

Hurakan was born on 2nd June after a relatively quick and easy labour for maiden mare Desert Storm (Gerty). Named after the Mayan God of Storms, Hurakan (Khan) is a very powerful and strong colt with an incredible laid back shoulder and deep barrel. He is very mature and exceptional bold with wonderful presence. He looks capable of a serious dressage or eventing career, and has already been sold. We wish Steph a lot of fun and success with her stunning boy.

As he matures Khan is proving to possess a wonderful mix of power and quality, combined with a remarkable kind nature. On his only outing he was awarded a second premium at the BEF Younstock Futurity held at Catherston Stud. He scored the highest marks for athleticism out of all the foals on the day and the judges loved his temperament and presence. He has also been shown once in 2007, at the BD Breeding Championships, where he again scored highly for his athleticism and impressed everyone with his incredible attitude.

Khan's sire is the Westphalen stallion Festivo, Champion of his BSPA grading in 2005 and a son of the legendary Fidermark. Fidermark was the Bundeschampion as a 4 year old, and had just started competing at Grand Prix when he died prematurely at the age of 11, leaving over 30 approved sons. Described by his trainer, the legendary Jo Hinnemann as the perfect horse, Fidermark made a huge impact on the Westphalen stud book. Festivo himself is to be aimed at Young Horse Classes this season and we hope he will make a big impact on the dressage scene.
Khan is the first foal of the advanced eventing mare Desert Storm (Gerty). Gerty was always a big powerful jumping machine, bold across country and careful in the show jumping. She is magnificent looking mare with a wonderful temperament, and we hope her power over fences coupled with Festivo's big expressive paces, will have combined to form an awesome athlete in Khan. Gerty is a daughter of the Grand Prix show jumping sire Landino, and therefore a granddaughter of the legend Landgraf. Despite his jumping heritage, Landino is the sire of Lanciano and grandsire of Lord Simclair, but very important dressage stallions. Her dam side contains many top SHB (HIS) stallions and her dam was actually a Champion 4 year old at Malvern.
We have been so impressed with Khan that Gerty was bred back to Festivo for 2007. Her filly foal, Mekkhala was truely stunning, but we unfortunatly lost her at just 2 weeks of age.
