1995 black BWBS Mare 16.1hh by The Star of Orion x Catherston Dauntless
Catherston Orange Grove (Orange) was purchased by Volatis Stud in 2007. Graded into the SHB Head Stud Book, Orange was awarded a 9 for general impression. A particuarly well made mare. Orange is a daughter of the SHB graded Polish Trakehner stallion Star of Orion and the versatile performance and breeding mare Catherston Dauntless. Her bloodlines are predominantly Trakehner and Thoroughbred with the exception of Dauntless's sire Dutch Courage who was out of a Gelderlander dam. These bloodlines give Orange great quality and allow us to consider both dressage and eventing sires for her.
Orange's first foal for Volatis is a very correct, tall coloured filly by the exciting young warmblood stallion Samaii. Samaii is graded in Germany with both the ZfDP and Oldenburg stud books and is making a winning start to his dressage career. He combines the bloodlines of the successful coloured stallion Sambertino with a wonderful Hanoverian motherline and influential sires Brentano II and Wenzel.

Orange's sire Star of Orion is a Polish bred Trakehner stallion who is graded with the SHB. He qualified for the National Dressage Championships ten times from Elementary to Intermediare. He is the sire of the advanced eventer Woodland's Unique Comet, an AES graded stallion and many other performance horses. His sire Aspirant was exported to the USA where he was a successful sire of good riding horses and still appears as a dam sire in many German Trakehner pedigrees.
Orange's dam was the very successful competition mare Catherston Dauntless. Graded with both the BWBS and SHB, Dauntless competed successfully up to Prix St George level dressage. She won 19 BSJA classes in one season and was placed in the Working Hunter championships at HOYS and RHIS. She is also the dam of the BWBS Reserve Champion stallion JJ Jambalaya who competed successfully to PSG level and now gelded is a schoomaster for a Young Rider.
Dauntless is a daughter of the great British dressage sire Dutch Courage - the foundation sire of Catherston Stud. For many years the leading sire of British dressage horses, he won an Individual Bronze Medal at the World Championships and his influence is still strongly felt through his many sons and grandsons, such as Dutch Gold and Catherston Dazzler.
