2008 brown tobiano SHB filly to make 16.1hh+ by Samaii x Catherston Orange Grove

Oriana was born on 23rd May, the first filly by her German graded sire Samaii, and also his first UK born foal. She has impressed us from the start with her wonderful attitude to life, her calm demenour and love of people. Although Oriana has been bre dprimarily with a dressage career in mind, there is good jumping blood on her dam's side and her half brother Seville has made a great start to his eventing career.

Oriana has been sold, and we wish Lucy and family ever success with her in the future.

 

Oriana's sire Samaii first impressed Sacha as a yearling at the British Dressage Breeding Championships. Not only was he a striking individual but he had a very interesting pedigree for a coloured colt being out of a very successful hanvoerian mare by the great Brentano II. He has gone on to be approved and graded in Germany by a number of leading studbooks including Oldenburg, Westfalen and most recently the Danish verband. He has also made a winning start to his ridden career. Samaii's sire Sambertino is well known in Britain as a consistent producer of dressage stock.

Oriana's dam Orange is by Star of Orion, a Polish bred Trakehner stallion who is graded with the SHB. He qualified for the National Dressage Championships ten times from Elementary to Intermediare. He is the sire of the advanced eventer Woodland's Unique Comet, an AES graded stallion and many other performance horses. His sire Aspirant was exported to the USA where he was a successful sire of good riding horses and still appears as a noted dam sire in many German Trakehner pedigrees.

Orange's dam was the very successful competition mare Catherston Dauntless. Graded with both the BWBS and SHB, Dauntless competed successfully up to Prix St George level dressage. She won 19 BSJA classes in one season and was placed in the Working Hunter championships at HOYS and RHIS. She is the dam of the BWBS Reserve Champion stallion JJ Jambalaya who competed successfully to PSG level and now gelded is a schoomaster for a Young Rider. Another foal is the Pony European Eventing Gold Medallist Catherston Nutsafe, who had an Elite scoring pony foal by embryo transfer this year.

Dauntless is a daughter of the great British dressage sire Dutch Courage - the foundation sire of Catherston Stud. For many years the leading sire of British dressage horses, he won an Individual Bronze Medal at the World Championships and his influence is still strongly felt through his many sons and grandsons, such as Dutch Gold and Catherston Dazzler. Orange herself is graded into the Head Stud Book of the SHB and scored especially highly for her conformation. Her eldest son Seville has made a great start to his BE career with especially good dressage results.
